You taught me something very important at a very important stage: You taught me that a person must be who she really is, no matter the cost in terms of losing others’ approval. I’ve always loved your courage for the unconventional course you set yourself. You’ve inspired some of my wilder forays!

Bea Lovitt: How can a headmistress who scared the pants off me when I was 14 be a cherished friend to me in my forties?! You, too, are in the spirit world, but I cherish our friendship. You taught me that discipline is to be embraced, that character depends on it.
